Movie Summary: Conflicts between King Charles I and Parliament coupled with a Scottish invasion result in the English Civil War. Made a prisoner after the Royalist defeat Charles plots his return to power while awaiting the outcome of the political wrangling. Cromwell and the Puritans use the kings political machinations as an excuse to put the king on trial for treason. After the kings execution and the failure of Parliamentary reform Cromwell uses his army to dissolve Parliament. Declaring himself Lord Protector he vows to restore justice to England.
